Performer Jenny Wynter bounces back to Melbourne after “unexpected” car crash

The irony of being wiped out in a head on collision only weeks before her show about “the unexpected” was to debut at Melbourne International Comedy Festival is not lost on comedienne and cabaret performer Jenny Wynter. She’s currently performing her solo show The Unexpected Variety Show for the Melbourne Fringe Festival.

Side-lined from performing for months to recover from the horrific accident, in which her then 11-month-old-baby was also present, Jenny fell into “a very deep and dark place. I thought my career was over, my body had permanently changed…it certainly put stagefright in context!”

Nearly two years later and Wynter – and her solo show The Unexpected Variety Show – are finally back. And this time, Jenny says it will take nothing less than “wild horses, a Norwegian strong man and/or the Apocalypse” to keep her away!

Interesting facts about The Unexpected Variety Show:

The show was developed during a residency at the world-renowned Banff Centre for the Arts, Canada.

It was directed by LA’s comedy guru Gary Austin, whom Helen Hunt thanked in her Oscar speech.

Jenny wrote much of it while pregnant with her third child in Canada.
