Success or Spin?

I'm looking forward to the opening night of the 2009 Adelaide Cabaret Festival as much as anyone but as the media is saturated with Cabaret stats my eyebrow is raised at the comparison offered by Douglas Gautier, CEO of the Adelaide Festival Centre.
Gautier has proffered the information that ticket sales are up 50% 15% on the same time last year, but neglects to mention that he ordered that the 2008 festival be slashed in length.
I'm keen for him to report how the sales stand up against sales figures for the 2007 festival.
I do hope that this year's Cabaret Festival continues to build upon the success that has been established over the previous eight years.
I'll be at opening night this Friday June 5. See you there.

There are also other ways of looking at ticket sales ie number of tickets sold compared to number available across a Festival.
I'm amending the figure on this story from fifty to fifteen percent, following an email from the Festival Centre making me aware that Douglas Gautier was misquoted in the ABC story I used as reference.
Only two days to go until the Adelaide Cabaret Festival 2009 begins!
I think that is typical of most media releases of this type, the actual numbers are never released, just some percentage which doesn't give you the full picture. It should be given in raw numbers and as a percentage of all seats available.
Best wishes for a great week of "Cabaret Overload" - wish I was there!
