Wistful songwriter learns about life on Broadway

The American composer John Bucchino writes complex, beautiful and idiosyncratic songs. He also knows a thing or two about the perennial wrestle between commerce and art.

In Sydney to perform his show John Bucchino & Friends tomorrow, the prodigious songwriter was among the guest artists at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival last week, directed by his friend and one-time collaborator David Campbell.

"It was such an amazing experience to be part of as there's nothing else like it in the world," says Bucchino, who with Harvey Feinstein co-wrote the musical A Catered Affair.
